Fidelity Go

So What Is Fidelity Go?

Fidelity Go is a platform, provided by Fidelity Investments, that allows individuals to take control of their investments without much babysitting or prior knowledge. A lot of the platforms that I showcase on this blog have this common. Being able to sit back and allow these investments work by themselves are a key feature as to why I use them. I discovered Fidelity Go at the beginning of October, but I wish I had found it sooner.

How Does It Work?

Fidelity Go will ask you a lot of questions about your lifestyle and your time-horizon for your investment. Based on all this information, Fidelity Go will spit out a customized portfolio for you to use and begin investing in. This sounds familiar because Acorns (and a lot of platforms, really) use this same approach, so this doesn't make Fidelity Go unique in this way. What makes Fidelity Go unique is that it is monitored for you by a "Robo" advisor at all times. Should the occasion come up that you need to talk to a real advisor, you can do that as well.

Once you begin funding your account - via an external bank account or an existing Fidelity account you may have - your funds will be used to purchase into the portfolio that Fidelity Go has selected for you. Again, this is very similar to how Acorns works.

What Are The Advantages?

Fidelity Go is NOT FREE. Because of this, you gain some benefit and are able to put a price on peace of mind. There is a monthly fee that is about 0.30% to 0.40% of your accounts total value. This may seem discouraging at first, but I started with $7,500 in our Fidelity Go account and this was roughly $3 a month. A fair price for knowing that I have someone helping to watch my investments and someone I can reach out to should I have any questions. Along with having access to an advisor from this monthly fee, they also waive all expense ratios when purchasing funds with your money. In the long run, this will help you potentially earn more because your money isn't being scraped off the top.
